Wales Extremism and Counter Terrorism Unit (WECTU)
WECTU was established in 2006 and created one Special Branch for the whole of Wales. Its remit covers international terrorism and domestic extremism and is driven by the Government's Counter Terrorism Strategy known as CONTEST. Through working collaboratively WECTU aims to work more effectively in its response to the threat from national and international terrorism and extremism. It seeks to keep the people of North Wales safer by building confidence and trust in our communities by working with the public and partners to identify, target and disrupt terrorists and extremists.
Collaborations with the North West
Underwater Search Unit
The unit serves the areas of Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire, Cumbria and North Wales and is staffed by police officers from the six force areas with the overall expenditure being met by each of the policing area.
Armed Policing and Police Dogs Alliance
Cheshire Constabulary and North Wales Police entered into a collaboration agreement to create an armed policing and police dogs alliance.
Regional Organised Crime Unit
The unit, known as Titan, serves the areas of Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire, Cumbria and North Wales and exists to increase operational capacity and capability to tackle the organised crime threat in north Wales and the North West through the establishment of a regional task force. Regional Intelligence Unit
The unit serves the areas of Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire, Cumbria and North Wales and plays a key role in tackling cross-border crime both feeding intelligence into action being taken at the regional level, and receiving intelligence from this work to inform future working.
Regional Asset Recovery Team
The unit serves the areas of Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire, Cumbria and North Wales and aims to provide focused multi-agency operational capability with responsibility for investigating money laundering and asset recovery.
Regional Forensics
Collaboration Agreement with Cheshire Constabulary, Cumbria Constabulary, Lancashire Constabulary, Merseyside Police and North Wales Police to include Drugs Testing, Footwear, Firearms, Toxicology and Forensics Courier Service.
Telecommunications Service
Collaboration Agreement between North Wales Police and Cheshire Constabulary for a 24/7 telecommunications single point of contact service for the acquisition of communications data under the Investigatory Powers Act 2016.
This collaboration agreement has been signed by the Chief Constables and Policing Bodies of North Wales Police and Cheshire Constabulary
The policing bodies are responsible for governance, strategy, holding relevant Chief Officers to account, financial arrangements and resolving disputes arising from the collaboration. The Chief Officers are responsible for direction and control of the day to day responsibilities of the members of the Telecommunications Service Unit.

The Council aims to bring all police forces in the UK together to help policing coordinate operations, reform, improve and provide value for money.
ACRO Criminal Records Office
To support UK and international law enforcement by processing criminal records for the purposes of public protection, safeguarding and worldwide community safety.
National Ballistics Sevice (NABIS)
NABIS provides fast-time intelligence linked to the criminal use of firearms, linking firearms incidents across the UK to help develop a national understanding of the use, supply, importation and manufacture of illegal firearms.
National Police Air Service (NPAS)
NPAS provides borderless air support to the police forces across England and Wales 24/7/365 from a national network of bases.
National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service (NAVCIS) / the National Wildlife Crime Unit (NWCU) and the National Police Freedom of Information and Data Protection Unit (NPFDU)
NAVCIS provides a link between policing and industry, NCWU provides support to all police forces, NPFDU provides professional advice on freemdon of information and data protection issues.

Modern Day Slavery Police Transformation Programme
The Police Forces in England and Wales have agreed to collaborate with each other in relation to the extension and running of the programme which shall support them to improve their responses to Modern Slavery Teams.
The Forensic Collison Investigation Network (FCIN) Section 22A Agreement for the formal establishment of the Forensic Collison Investigation Network for all forces in England and Wales
This collaboration agreement has been signed by the Chief Constables and Policing Bodies of all the forces in England and Wales.
The objective of the arrangement is for all forces in England and Wales to achieve UKAS accreditation in forensic collision investigation by October 2023 and thereafter to maintain UKAS accreditation under the umbrella of the North Wales Police FCIN Management Team delivering accredited forensic collision investigation.
The policing bodies are responsible for governance, strategy, holding relevant Chief Officers to account, financial arrangements and resolving disputes arising from the collaboration. The Chief Officers are responsible for advising the Policing Bodies on operational considerations to be accommodated in the strategy, monitoring and efficiency of the FCIN, disputes arising from an operational perspective and direction and control of officers within the FCIN.
National Collaboration Agreement in relation to National Police Coordination Centre
NPoCC enables operationally independent and locally accountable Chief Officers to co-ordinate the deployment of police officers and staff from across UK policing to support forces during large scale events, operations and in times of national crisis for example large scale flooding and civil emergencies.
The Policing Bodies shall be responsible for governance, strategy and approving budget, inter alia.
Chief Constables shall be responsible for advising the Policing Bodies of operational considerations, delivery plan and recommendations and shall have direction and control of officers within the NPOCC
